High Performance 3 Phase Pulse Amplifier
Our customer needed fast delivery of a powerful high performance drive amplifier to complete a seriously overdue contract. Failure was not an option!
Our customer’s linear motor (3 independent windings, 24” displacement) needed high current and bandwidth to
simulate real world shock events. Other requirements:
- Power and bandwidth to deliver 300 g’s in complex crash time histories
- Interface with a proprietary serial communication protocol
- Low distortion (THD < 1% at 200Hz)
- Low noise (-80 db or better)
- High bandwidth (more than 1 kHz at 45 degree Φ)
- Small quantities—four units for two end-users
- End product hardware ASAP
The Performance Controls Solution: PCI Pulse Amplifier PCI provided a “project saving” solution with the PCI Pulse Amplifier
- Short duration (100 msec max)1600 A and 400 V amplifier (per phase) output drives the customer-developed linear motor
- A versatile DSP control platform supports future design enhancements and “new customer” customization
- A linear encoder interface provides displacement and velocity feedback
- A +/-10 volt signal programs acceleration within the physical capabilities of the motor
- Bandwidth exceeds 1.7 kHz at 45 deg Φ
- Noise and distortion specifications exceeded design goals
- Production units were delivered to our customer in about 12 weeks (from a clean sheet of paper concept)
- PCI support services ensured successful system integration
